Espresso 77
35-57 77th St
Jackson Heights, NY 11372
(718) 424-1077
When you live in a slowly gentrifying neighborhood like Jackson Heights, a place like Espresso 77 means more than just the first place to get really good espresso. It means that you finally have enough neighbors to support a local independently owned specialty espresso house, which is encouraging since Jackson Heights is otherwise awash in discount shoe stores, 99 cent shops and more chain drug stores than you can shake a sick at.
Now for the coffee. This place takes it seriously – so seriously that in fact it only sells espresso. Here, it’s about a well done espresso pull, and perfectly steamed milk — something that’s arguably more difficult than preparing a nice cup of joe. And Espresso 77 does this really well. Their latte reminds me of the late Cafe 1063 or the Brooklyn Label in Greenpoint. It’s good coffee and a good place.
There’s a already a good amount of buzz on chowhound.

Jack Stir Brew Coffee
138 West 10th Street and 22 Front Street, New York City

Great coffee doesn’t mean reinventing it, just getting it right. But Jack’s is about reinventing it, or more specifically the brewing process. Instead of just dripping hot water down through a basket of grounds, it begins as a slurry of coffee grounds and hot water. This eventually gets filtered down into some of the most full-bodied robust coffee you’ve ever tasted.
In 2005, New York Magazine rated Jack the best coffee in NYC.
For those who may need the occasional perfect escape from the financial district (while still in it) this is it.

Look hard (it’s hidden between a boutique and a bar)

Buenos Aires Bakery
9009 Roosevelt Ave
Jackson Heights NY 11372-7938
As a Jackson Heights resident, the Colombian B’Aires (Buenos Aires) Bakery is a wonderful place to have around. It’s specialty is not coffee, but the coffee is just as delicious as the numerous pastries and cakes. The coffee is a medium roast, with a light woody flavor. The neighborhood takes their coffee with milk and sugar (you can’t order coffee without being asked “how many sugars” in Jackson Heights) but this coffee is more than good enough to drink black.
